What on earth is Operation Skinny Cow?

Operation Skinny Cow was born after a few of us in Blogland decided it might be nice to lose some weight and/or get a bit fitter. We decided it would be even nicer if we encouraged each other along the way.

You can read about how it started in this post.

If you want to be part of the fun and add your own posts to this blog then send an e-mail to Emily Sue at reachingforgreen@gmail.com and she'll set you up as an author.

Weigh in LLL

Hi All,
Exhaustion has set in but that is ok as the house is clean. The heavy stuff for this week.
I am not worried about the extra 100g that has found me this week. It was mothers day and my husband bought chinese for sunday lunch and my daughter made a delicious dessert, so that all added on and then I was given a chocolate by my daughter. It is delicious as well and is lasting not too long. So with choc each day I don't expect a drop as yet. However one more sitting and the choc will be gone. It is a long time since I was able to sit and eat choc when I wanted.
So this week is 62.8 and now I start another week with another chance to loose some more.

Manda is forgetful and sorry

So, given all your activity of late, I doubt you'll remember one of the things I said in my last post: "I'll keep you updated on my progress." I certainly forgot it completely!

I've been chugging along, splurging more than I should but still less than I used to. I've got a nice winter-belly-baby going, but the rest of me is the same. So, let's pretend I haven't neglected my posting promise for the last few months, and start over.

Last time, I weighed: 71.1
Current Weight: 71.6
Weight change since last time: a gain of 500 grams
What I'll do now: Stop being such a food pushover.

You know when you finally learn that
when your housemate/husband/girlfriends offer you that piece of cake/chocolate ice cream/Cadbury creme egg, you are within your legal rights to turn it down
and you feel liberated, like suddenly it's actually your decision?
I learned that two years ago, and instituted a No Sugar in Public Rule (NSPR), which basically meant all my sweet things were sweet things I actually wanted to eat, and fit into my food points. It worked wonders (the decision being already made for me) and I lost more weight than usual. But I seem to have forgotten again.

But now I remember. This week, when my housemates offer me junk, I have often turned it down. Watch this:
Georgeous housemate: I'm going to have a crunchie.
Other georgeous housemate: Oooh, me too! Manda, do you want one?
Me: No thanks.
O.G.Housemate (cheerfully): Yeah, I thought you wouldn't.

WHAT?!
What just happened? Are things turning around? Am I finally getting to a point where I'm actually going to do something about my Winterbaby?

(Note: this is the first step of many that must occur for me to get to my goal. It doesn't matter how much I turn down from others if I pig out alone.)

Oh, and one more thing:
Modified, realistic goal for winter: 68 kilos. That means I have to lose just under three kilos over the next two months.

Whoops, and one more note: I am holding off on the NSPR for the moment - just turning down more of the 10 desserts offered to me in an average week.

No Weigh! (Donners)

I don't know if I established my goals very clearly but I am not going to weigh-in, because my problem isn't weight, it's greed and that's why I joined OSC - to be accountable for my attitude towards food.

I did okay this week, I am trying to see food as something that is a good gift to enjoy, not as entertainment when I am bored, tired or lacking the motivation to do other things - I think I was better this week.I am trying to see food as something that I need regularly for energy and nourishment - rather than to meet my felt need. I was definately better at that!

My health ( ongoing problems) was bad today which leads to exhaustion, nausea, back and abdominal pain and I had to go home early - which was frustrating. I had missed my medication for the day which gave me an even worse reaction than usual. It was amazing how much I watched myself think "I want chocolate, I want melted cheese - I want" - when I was having cramps and other pain!

Food's not going to cut it darling, just have to ride it out - I still had a bit of chocolate and had melted cheese for dinner.

The New kid (Donners)

Hi all you skinny cows!

I'm the new kid, so I hope I don't end up walking around the playground by myself - probably eating something I shouldn't. For those of you who don't know me I am friends with Manda, Eizelby and know Femina some too...

Manda and I challenged each other ( last year) to not eat (refined) sugar for two weeks and only eat fruit instead, since then I have bounced around being "good" and bad"since then. I am a big fan of food and so is my husband, I tend to exercise very regularly but have a few tiredness issues that sometimes hold me back.

Last night I went to the St Kilda night market and had (extremely delicious Argentinian) barbecued ribs and not only finished mine but started on my husbands leftovers....Sad isn't it! I then moved on to share some churros with him too, which I didn't need.

All in all, I feel good that I tried two types of food I had never had before and I don't need to wonder anymore. I am also being virtuous in buying various nice dried fruit ( cranberries, sultanas, apricots, prunes and dates) instead of lollies, which just get me every time.

I was good with exercise this week, too. But need to exercise more self-control when I'm tired, Wednesday night looked awfully close to a binge...

Thanks for having me!

Weigh-In Wednesday (Femina)

Here are Femina's tips for gaining a kilo from one Weigh-In Wednesday to the next:

1. Work in a church. This is a vital step to gaining weight. Try to find a church where many groups meet during the week - eg, playgroups, women's Bible studies etc. Ideally, they will feel sorry for the office manager who is there on her own and will bring in treats from their morning tea. Muffins and slices are particularly helpful for reaching your weight-gain goals.

2. Try to have insomnia or some kind of sleep disturbance most nights. This will leave you fuzzy-headed in the mornings and too tired to eat a proper breakfast or make your lunch, leaving you free to buy a fattening lunch at a cafe.

3. Have a couple of emotionally wobbly days. Feed your emotions with coco-pops (yes, because I'm twelve) or a nice bacon and egg brunch. Or both. Feel guilty about it - hopefully this guilt will lead to more emotional eating.

4. Attend a funeral with the most awesome catering you've ever seen. Preferably it should be the funeral of someone you knew slightly well but not very well - this means you'll be sad but not so sad that you can't get stuck into the unbelievably good cakes at the morning tea afterwards.

5. Completely forget that you're meant to be eating better until after you wipe the last sweet, sweet muffin crumb from your lips. (Oops!)

Hmmm... yeah, not a great week for me. I'm not as distraught as you'd imagine though, because if I'm honest I can't say that I was really trying hard. Or, you know.... at all. I did, however, have a fantastic workout at the gym on Saturday; and I now have vegetables in my fridge again so I'll start putting in an effort this week.

Hope you all did better than me... but if not, at least you have company! :)

My husband went shopping ... (Givinya)

And there was a special.

THIS HERE is one of my obstacles, people! I have walked past that special all week. I figure that I don't need them. If they grace my pantry, I'd only eat far too many and regret it.

So with the willpower I do possess, I left them at the supermarket every single visit. And here they are in my pantry!

Now watch me battle with the willpower I don't possess.

Weigh-In Wednesday (femina)

This hasn't started well - I went to weigh myself this morning and discovered that my electronic scales require new batteries. Hmmm... obviously haven't done this for a while. Not to worry; I'll fill that bit in later. In the meantime, here's my plan:

Big Goal: Lose 8 kilos (I think... I'll update after I work out what I weigh) and fit into size 12 clothes
This week's goals: Get back into the habit of going to the gym / Bring vegetables back into my life (!)
Exercise plan: Gym twice a week / three times if I'm particularly inspired
Reward for reaching Big Goal: Haven't decided this yet...
My weaknesses: BBQ chips, bacon, chocolate (3 or 4 times a week...)

You don't have to follow this pattern when making your Weigh-In Wednesday entry; this is just what works for me. My goal this week isn't weight-oriented - ie, I haven't said "I want to lose a kilo this week" - because my goal is to kick off the process by developing better habits and a different midset.

That's it from me. Happy Weigh-In Wednesday, everyone!

ps... When making your entry, it would be helpful to put your name (Blogger name, that is) in the title of the post AND in the labels - that way it's easy to track your own progress simply by clicking the label.
