What on earth is Operation Skinny Cow?

Operation Skinny Cow was born after a few of us in Blogland decided it might be nice to lose some weight and/or get a bit fitter. We decided it would be even nicer if we encouraged each other along the way.

Back in the Saddle Again (HJ)

Okay my little Bovine Bloggy Buddies, I have good news that will bring great joy to all mankind... or, well... I found it quite good and encouraging.

Christmas weight is officially gone, and took some friends with it.

Loss this week: 1.4 kg
Loss since the 20 December (i.e. last weigh-in before Christmas): 0.3kg
Total loss: 7.4 kg

Amount to lose before hitting my next goal: 0.6 kg.
I'm the lightest I've been since March 2006, and only 0.6 of a kg stands between me and that weight.
Chances that I'm going to try very hard to get there this week?

... Approximately None!

Thats great! I tried some long pants on this morning and they are a bit tighter than usual.... too many christmas chocolates

If this continues I'm going to demand that you post a photo in a crop top and bike pants, like on The Biggest Loser. That should stop you getting uppity.

Just kidding! You're doing BRILLIANTLY and I'm very impressed and I want to be just like you when I grow up. However, as I write this I'm still 'glistening' because I've just come home from the gym and my legs and stomach muscles are hurting... so I'm wondering if there's any way I could emulate your weight loss without the actual exercise part??

"crop top and bike pants" - he, he, he ... no way, or at least no way until I've lost all the weight!

And yes, I think it is mainly the exercise, so Good on You Femina for going to the gym!

I'm looking forward to having got rid of the weight when hopefully I will only have to row 3 times a week to maintain, instead of trying to do it each morning (did 6 sessions this week). Although, by then it might be so much a part of my day that I can't stop. - I wonder what that would do to my body? Would I just keep losing and losing until there was nothing left of me? Or will I hit a level that my body would have been if I had lived back when cars and labour-saving devices hadn't been invented? Maybe I'll be able to eat whatever I want and not get fat, just like when I was a teenager.

Okay, so I'm a little overexcited by the fact that I'm losing again. The Christmas weight did take the enthusiasm out of my mental state. When I see reward for effort it is so much better.

It's a bit like my friend at college. She got 2 University Medals (double degree), but I could never grudge her her GPA because she used to work for it. I mean, obviously she was very bright, but she put in the hours at her desk and I didn't. Now I'm putting in some effort, and I'm getting results. Yippee!

Ummm. Just re-read my comment.

It wasn't meant to sound show-offy, just extolling the benefits of exercise. (which surprises me because I'm a life-member of the Couch Potato society - I hate exercise in most forms).

But sounding show-offy could be the reason that I apparently only had one friend in college. Who used to spend hours at her desk. Sorry Givinya, if you thought you were ALSO a friend of mine from college. Obviously not, as it turns out.

It didn't sound show-offy. You've worked hard and your hard work is showing results. You should be proud of that. And I totally get being excited about it - although it's not official weigh-in day for me, my scales tell me I've lost the Christmas blow-out weight so I updated my ticker today. (But of course I'll use last Wednesday's weight when calculating the totals next week... I'm excited but I'm not an idiot.)

Once you reach your goal weight you might find you prefer to row only a couple of times a week and walk the LBD on the other days. Or just eat more. :)

Oh, I've walked the LBD 5 times this week as well as the rowing.

The best thing about rowing is that I don't feel I have to get actual exercise value out of walking the LBD. So I take him for 20 minutes at an easy walking pace and do some deep breathing and get rid of all my mental cobwebs, rather than feel obliged to get my heart-rate up to fat-burning. I'm finding it deeply relaxing at the end of the day.

As a result I'm actually ENJOYING walking the LBD, which is good because he should have steady walking most days - it will keep his arthritic joints moving for longer.

And Femina, well done on having got rid of YOUR Christmas blow-out too. Yeah for Femina! (and yes, I would have updated my ticker mid-week if I found that I'd lost a bit more, too)
